Editing Techniques: Continuity/Non Continuity

Editing Techniques: Continuity/Non Continuity

I use Final Cut Pro to edit my clips, firstly what I do is put all the clips in, deciding how much of the clip I want to insert by using the I and O keys which cut off a certain part of the clip specifically for the movie in order to edit it easier. This helps when rendering because if you put in a whole clip of the same thing over and over again and keep having to render it then you will waste a lot of time. I cut the clips using the razor tool if there was a part i didn't think suited the clip for editing continiuty purposes and also the rolling tool which was useful by using frame by frame rolling into the next shot for perfect continuity.

Continuity editing is when a film shows everything in real time and make the cuts suit the chronological order of things. However non continuity is when the cuts are jumping in and out time like a montage for example.

I saved my Film project in my documents as a final cut pro file as well as a quick time movie however to do this i needed to export into a quick time movie conversion and change settings to Apple Intermediate Codec or into an MPEG4 file to be able to upload onto YouTube.
